Hanns Seidel Foundation Hosts its Regional Sustainability Network Annual Gathering Pre-Cop 29

Attended by participants from various Hanns Seidel Foundation‘s partner organisations in Sub-Shahara Africa, the Regional Sustainability Network is a network initiative developed in 2018 to provide a platform for region-wide dialogue for partners active in the climate field from different HSF project countries of the Sub-Saharan Africa division.

Triple Capital Supports MEFT and the COP29 Namibian Pavilion

Triple Capital made a contribution of NAD20,000.00 to the Namibian Pavilion which will host Namibian side events and act as an office of COP29 programming and operations during the UNFCCC COP29 negotiations. The contributions were facilitated by the Environmental Investment Fund of Namibia together with the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board, on behalf of the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism.

EIF Host its Economics and Climate Change Workshop for Collaborative Solutions

Environmental Investment Fund (EIF) hosted its inaugural Economics and Climate Change Dialogue.  Entitled “Assessing and Optimizing the Namibian Environmental Economics and Natural Resource Economics Skill Set”, the event focused on Environmental Economics (EE)/ Natural Resource Economics (NRE) in the context of climate change. It aimed to identify skill gaps and devise strategies for enhancing national capacity in these critical areas.

Louise Brown recently joined other experts for a discussion on The roots of climate resilience in Africa’s drylands: catalysing synergies between land restoration, community building and peace, at the Accelerating Nature-based Solutions Conference convened from 11th to 15th March 2024 in Livingstone, Zambia by Global Evergreening Alliance.

Triple Capital is represented by Louise Brown and Toini Amutenya at the recent UNFCCC COP28 undergoing in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.  COP28 kicked off on 30 November and is expected to conclude negotiations on 12 December 2023.  Triple Capital is participating as part of the Namibian Delegation following matters and positions on climate finance and that of the global goal on adaptation.  The Namibian position at COP28 can be found here (Country Position at COP28).

Policy Paper: Strengthening the Climate Resilience of Conflict-affected and Vulnerable Communities

In July, the Summer Academy on Land, Security and Climate convened another workshop at the Caux Palace, Switzerland, organised around “Strengthening the Climate Resilience of Conflict-affected and Vulnerable Communities”. The workshop attracted participants from various corners of the globe, strengthening the discussion on the vulnerability of conflict-affected communities towards climate change and, solutions for climate resilience.

COP28 Gender Equality Day: Alliances for Women Empowerment Discussion

The Namibian Pavilion and partners at the UNFCCC COP28 being held in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, joined other parties to celebrate and observe the Gender Equality thematic Day with a panel discussion on the Alliances for Women Empowerment: Experiences from the Global South.

The 2023 Summer Academy on Land, Security and Climate was held in Caux Switzerland from 17 to 19 July. The workshop was held under the theme “Strengthening climate resilience of conflict-affected and vulnerable communities” and was co-organized by Triple CapitalInitiatives of Change Switzerland, and Geneva Centre for Security Policy and with support from Earthbanc.

Webinar: Lessons From the Field

On March 16, 2023, the CSO-GCF Project Partners, Namibia Nature Foundation and Triple Capital hosted a webinar on Lessons from the Field on the EDA pilot project implemented in Namibia. The Enhanced Direct Access Project, implemented by the Environmental Investment Fund of Namibia (EIF), is the first project of its kind in Namibia and globally to be funded by Green Climate Fund.

The Environmental Investment Fund of Namibia (EIF) together with the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT) recently held a consolidated Round Table Discussion on Gender Mainstreaming and Climate Finance, with emphasis on drawing back on lessons learned from the various projects financed and implemented in Namibia to understand how best climate finance impacts gender mainstreaming in national strategies and frameworks.

The webinar aimed at sharing Namibia’s expectation in terms of decisions to tackle climate change, climate finance resources to avert climate crises and youth expectation of inclusivity in the decision making.

The 2021 Virtual Summer Academy on Climate, Land and Security was a great success

The Summer Academy on Climate, Land, and Security, hosted by the Geneva Centre for Security Policy in partnership with Initiatives of Change Switzerland and Triple Capital concluded on  30th July 2021 with awarding certificates to the 30 participants who spend a week exploring solutions at the nexus of land, security and climate change issues.
