On March 16, 2023, the CSO-GCF Project Partners, Namibia Nature Foundation and Triple Capital hosted a webinar on Lessons from the Field on the EDA pilot project implemented in Namibia. The Enhanced Direct Access Project, implemented by the Environmental Investment Fund of Namibia (EIF), is the first project of its kind in Namibia and globally to be funded by Green Climate Fund.

EDA is a new climate finance modality with the objective of empowering local actors with climate finance decision-making to best address their climate needs. This model is looking at creating local ownership over the process by moving away from traditional funding models in which much of the decision-making is by intermediaries.

The Webinar was a listening session to share lessons learned during implementation, and identify best practices and recommendations for the EIF and the GCF on how better to enhance the new modality to ensure its long-term success.

Panelists included representatives from the Community Based Natural Resources Management (CBNRM) Conservancies and Community Forests in Namibia, as well as supporting entities and the EIF:

• Erika Ndjavera, chairwoman of the Omurambe Ua Mbinda Conservancy in Omaheke Region
• Ben Mukasa, Chairman of Sikandjabuka Community Forest in Zambezi Region
• Jackson Hindjou, Supporting entity for the Ozohani Conservancy in Otjozondjupa Region
• Salome Naivela, Consultant: Stakeholders Engagement and Administration for the EIF.

The session was moderated by Toini Amutenya, Research and Communication Officer for Triple Capital.
